OGOP draws its inspiration from Thailand’s successful One Tambon One Product (OTOP) and Japan’s One Village One Product (OVOP) programme. It encourages village communities to improve local product quality and marketing.

The OGOP project is being implemented by the Queen’s Project Office, under the overall guidance of a working committee. It was launched on 11th November 2015 with 60 authentic Bhutanese products, coinciding with the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King.

Objective

The ultimate objective of OGOP is to increase and supplement rural cash income by producing at least one product from each Gewog. Through the production of authentic Bhutanese products for both domestic and international markets, the programme aims to contribute to poverty alleviation, improvement of rural livelihoods and the promotion of entrepreneurship amongst the Bhutanese people.

Products

OGOP will only produce goods made with locally available raw materials. Products with the following characteristics will not qualify for OGOP:

Imported raw materials (with the exception of packaging materials and selected preservatives)
Illegal raw materials
Counterfeit or pirated products
Socially and economically harmful materials and processes
Non-environmentally friendly methods and material
